      About The Artist

      Cathy Carter is a photographic and multimedia conceptual artist, based in Grey Lynn, Auckland. Carter's practice explores bodies of water as physical, cultural, and unique environmental ‘landscapes’ and investigates our complex psychological relationship to water through different perspectives and geographical locations.

      Through the use of different perspectives, Carter seeks to embody seeing as an experience rather than solely as observation. As spaces of isolation and destabilisation, the bodies of water depicted in her work offer sensuous and psychologically-compelling encounters, and explore human vulnerability in these environments, as well as the vulnerability of our oceans and waterways at this time in history.
