Native America: In Translation | Blanton Museum of Art

"Native America: In Translation, curated by artist Wendy Red Star, assembles the wide-ranging work of nine Indigenous artists who offer contemporary perspectives on memory, identity, and the history of photography. “I was thinking about young Native artists and what would be inspirational and important for them as a road map,” said Red Star."

This road map encompasses the work of intergenerational photographers, multimedia assemblage, and video producers who represent multiple Native countries and connections. Among them is the late Cree artist Kimowan Metchewais, whose evocative Polaroids explore language and scenery. Martine Gutierrez's chic self-portraits also challenge notions of ideal beauty by posing as fashion advertisements.

Exhibition Dates: Through January 5, 2025

Location: 200 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Austin, TX 78712
